We Are GO For ROCstock! Our Permit Is Approved!

Thanks to ROC Board Member Allen Farrington’s work with the BLM, ROC’s permit to use the lake bed has been approved starting with our June 2012 ROCstock launch, and continuing for five years. We won’t have to worry about renewing our BLM permit again until 2017!
(Our May launch is still canceled, however.)
We’ve rescheduled our next Trailer Cleaning for June 2, 2012, which is the Saturday before ROCstock. If you miss seeing the rest of your rocket buddies, coming to the trailer cleaning is a great opportunity to get together, and support the club at the same time. (Lunch will be provided by ROC, as usual.)
I look forward to seeing everyone at the trailer cleaning, and then at ROCstock!
We are go for launch!

Our Next Launch is January 14, 2012
Posted: January 10, 2012 Filed under: Launch Announcements | Tags: Calendar, launch 3 Comments »Fellow ROC Members,
A quick reminder: this Saturday (January 14, 2012) is the next ROC Launch. Projected weather conditions appear to be cool but favorable for launching. As usual, the best flying conditions prevail in the morning hours, but forecasts call for low “W” throughout the day; easterly winds around 4 mph and sunny skies are expected. If conditions are a repeat of last month’s, it should be a great day for rockets. Portable toilets should be delivered on site by Friday evening for the convenience of those camping overnight.
The overnight lows will be quite chilly, in the low to mid low 20′s, so dress warmly and be prepared. Daytime highs should reach the mid 60′s. Despite the cool weather, be sure to bring (and drink) plenty of water to avoid dehydration, and wear a hat, sunglasses, and sunblock to avoid getting burned. The desert is a dry and sunny place, even in the winter.
The ROC equipment trailer will be on-site at about 7:00 AM Saturday morning. The more setup help we have, the quicker things will go, and the better we can take advantage of those prime morning flying hours, so please plan on coming out early to help if possible! (While on the subject of helping out, don’t forget the trailer/equipment cleaning work party in two weeks on 1/28!)
Overnight camping is allowed as usual, but be sure to keep all campfires in above-ground containers to comply with BLM rules, and pack your ashes and wood debris out with you when you leave. Let’s always try to leave the playa a little cleaner than we found it.
Let’s fly rockets! We’ll see you on the lake bed!

Trailer Cleaning Dates for 2012
Posted: January 10, 2012 Filed under: Trailer Cleaning | Tags: Calendar, Trailer Comments OffHello ROC Folks:
Time to drag out those new 2012 calendars and start marking important dates! We know you’ve been eagerly awaiting this, so here is the 2012 schedule of trailer and equipment cleaning events:
2012 Trailer Cleaning Schedule (all on Saturdays from 9 AM to 4 PM):
- January 28
- February 25
- June 2 ***** note changed date *****
- October 6
The first one is not far off — Mark your calendar — Saturday, January 28, 2012, starting at 9:00 am, we will be holding a trailer cleaning event to re-organize the contents of the trailer, repair any broken equipment, and generally get everything in good shape for the new year ahead. It’s a great opportunity to give back to the club, and to shoot the bull with all your rocket buddies. We can use all the help we can get, so please put this on your calendar and join the fun!
The location, as always, is the home of Leslie and Scott Mayer, in Oak Hills. If you’ve never been there before, please contact us for directions.
Lunch will be provided by ROC, and everyone is invited. Feel free to bring friends, relatives, and a willingness to lend a hand. Work gloves are encouraged, as we’ll be hauling all of the launch equipment out of the trailer to clean and repair it, and gloves can make that easier. If you have special expertise, such as with electrical repair or machining, bring that too! There is no shortage of deferred maintenance to take care of. (If you spend an hour cleaning launch rails, you’ll never fly another sparky motor again! ;-) )
Our Next Launch is December 10, 2011
Posted: November 28, 2011 Filed under: Launch Announcements | Tags: Calendar, launch Comments OffThe next ROC Launch will be on Saturday, December 10, 2011.
Setup will begin at about 7:00 AM when the trailer arrives, and we’ll start flying as soon as setup is complete. The more help we have, the faster setup will go, and the sooner we can start flying, so please come out early to lend a hand!
See you all there!
