August Launch Announcment

Temps are forecast to be anywhere from the high 90’s to over 100° next Saturday.  We plan to open the range at 7 AM and fly until 11 AM.  Possibly noon depending on how hot it gets.  If you plan to launch a special project or something that requires a lot of prep time please be ready to fly between the hours of 7 – 11.  The trailer will be on the lakebed by 6:15 AM and with the help of volunteers we should be set up by 7.  Reminder to bring and drink plenty of fluids and stay in the shade as much as possible.

July Launch Report

What a great July launch we had!  The weather cooperated with very light to no “W” and temps in the high 90’s.  There was as a total of 143 flights.  Congratulations to the four successful Level 1 certifications, five Level 2 and a beautiful Level 3 cert flight on an M1939 by John Williams.  Payton Kramer’s hybrid rocket “Wasting Dad’s Money While I can” flew flawlessly on an Contrail M1491!  There were four 2-stage flights and five cluster flights including a really sweet launch of Derek Jamieson’s “Night Hawk” on three G125s and four G80s!  Brian Morilak’s upscale Comanche III “Three Times The Fun” was really cool as was Rob Lees Polecat Wocket on a J250 Skidmark.  There were many other crowd pleasing flights and a few spectacular cato’s throughout the day.  All in all a great day!

Thanks to the volunteers and Board members who make ROC launches run smoothly month after month.

ROC Board of Director Self Nomination Announcment

It’s that time of year folks! If you’ve ever wondered about the “behind the scenes” of your club, wanted to become more involved in club decision making, simply want to “pay it forward” or just want to learn more about rocketry then consider self-nominating for a seat on the ROC Board of Directors.

There are three full term (three year) and one partial term (two years) Director seats up for election this year. David Erbas-White has once again volunteered to collect the nominations. Andrew Wimmer is this year’s Election Chairman. Any adult ROC member in good standing can self-nominate by writing a Statement of Self-Nomination and short bio. Make sure to include a photo. Please send to: bigbearrockets@cox.net. The deadline for self-nomination is August 31st, 2018 at 11:59 PM.  Ballots will be cast electronically via the Wild Apricot Membership Portal during Sept and Oct.  Results of the election will be announced during the Annual Members Meeting November 10th, 2018 at ROCstock. If elected, your annual club fees are waived.

Please consider running for a Board of Director seat. It’s a great way to become more involved and have fun while making a difference in the hobby we all love so much!

ROC Statement Regarding the Aliso Viejo Explosion

The Rocketry Organization of California confirms that Stephen Beal was once a member of ROC.  He has not been a member in recent years.

As a family oriented club, ROC is saddened by the Aliso Viejo event.

ROC and it’s members have been contacted by the press, however, this event is not a hobby rocketry story therefore ROC will have no further comment.

The Rocketry Organization of California is a non-profit corporation established to provide a safe and legal environment for its members to enjoy hobby rocketry.
