ROCStock Reminders

Hi All, Our November ROCStock launch is coming up next Friday-Sunday, November 12-14.
The BOD is experimenting with an optional survey to gauge launch attendance ahead of time. The form is here and hopefully self explanatory:  https://forms.gle/SQj2Sib5G9fBgc2e7 . We’ll be spending a good amount of time looking at data trends before starting to use it-and it’ll only be used to help us set rough expectations for resource needs. To reiterate, this is entirely optional, and if your plans change or you forget, that’s 100% okay and expected.
This is our first November ROCStock in a few years, so if it’s been a while since you’ve camped out on the lakebed, be sure to review the camping and survival page here: https://rocstock.org/camping-survival/ as well as any other pages you may find relevant to your questions.
We will be holding our annual members meeting on Saturday at a TBD time.
As always, monitor the website, social media and/or our email lists for last minute updates.
Looking forward to seeing everyone out there!

October Launch Reminders

Hi All,
Our October launch is coming up next Saturday, October 9th. As was previously communicated, this will be a single day event with our normal monthly launch setup, not a ROCTober style event. While it is a bit far out to predict the weather, it is likely to be cooler than previous months, so as always, dress for the weather and drink water. As always, show up early and fly early for the best conditions.
This month, and going forward, the BOD will be experimenting with an optional survey to gauge launch attendance ahead of time.
Looking forward, we will have our first November ROCStock in 2 years next month! This will be a 3 day event from November 12th-November 14th focused on high power flying.

ROCstock June 2021

Hello Everyone,

ROCstock 2021 is right around the corner, June 11-13. Range setup will begin around 1pm Thursday and launching will begin Friday morning. Night flights on Friday and Saturday, weather permitting of course. We are also one of 12 sites across the country hosting the TARC National Finals. There will be teams launching their rockets on Friday and on Sunday morning. The teams will have a dedicated prep area and pads for their flights but this will not affect the rest of the launch.

A few reminders for the launch……

We are currently under stage II fire restrictions. All campfires must be above ground and a Cal Fire permit MUST be obtained and in possession to have a campfire, use a camp stove, or have any open flame. Cal Fire does visit our launches and the fine is not worth it. These are very easy to obtain by watching a short video and answering a few questions on what you just watched. You can obtain the permit here -> Permits – Ready for Wildfire

Unfortunately, NO Drones at anytime or place during our events are allowed. “Drone” Policy has Changed to Prohibit ALL Radio Controlled Aircraft at ROC Launches

Porta Potties will be on-site Thursday afternoon along with hand wash stations. No dumpster will be on-site. Pack it in – Pack it out.

It will be warm to HOT with temps in the upper 80’s to upper 90’s so bring plenty of water and sports drinks to keep hydrated. Beer and soda is not water and does not keep you as hydrated.

AMW and Discount Rocketry are scheduled to be on-site.

We are still under CDC guidelines so please keep distancing in mind in locations such as registration, pad assignment and safety check areas.

We will have T-Shirts, hats, stickers and raffle tickets for sale. There will be two raffles, one for adults and one for kids. LOTS of prizes available!!

Looking forward to a great ROCstock and seeing everyone on the playa.

ROC Board of Directors

Nov ROCstock Postponed, 3-Day ROCstock Dec 7, 8, 9th!

The November 10-11 ROCstock has been cancelled. ROCstock has been rescheduled for December. This will be a three day event beginning Friday, December 7th, going through Sunday afternoon, December 9th.

Although conditions on the lakebed continue to improve, they are still not acceptable to hold a launch. ROC is working closely with the BLM and a grading contractor to restore the site to acceptable conditions.

Board of Director Election results will be announced via roc-chat/announce and posted to the website the weekend of November 10th. Voting will close as originally announced November 8th. The Annual Membership Meeting will be held at ROCstock the afternoon of December 8th. The new Board of Directors will again be announced during the Membership Meeting and will meet thereafter to vote for 2019 officers.

See everyone in December!
